AI Glasses vs a Phone Assistant: What Changes in Everyday Use?
Relia GroupShare
Should you buy AI glasses if you already use an assistant on your phone? Start with a task, not a feature list. Imagine preparing a one-minute introduction for a community event: you want a shorter opening, a clear sequence and a reminder of the final point. The useful question is where you want to speak, read and check the result.
A phone remains a practical place to edit a long draft and inspect sources. Display glasses can add another way to receive information while keeping the phone out of your hand for supported tasks. They do not automatically bring every phone-assistant feature, account or app into your glasses.
Follow the task from input to result
Think of an AI interaction in three steps: what you provide, which supported service or feature handles it, and how you receive the response. A spoken question, a photo and a typed paragraph are different inputs. A short answer, an image description and an action inside another app are different results.
Rokid describes its display glasses as supporting voice questions and photo-based identification with follow-up questions. RV101 combines a binocular monochrome display, camera and open-ear audio. Those are useful interface choices, but the available functions still need checking against the current app, software and region. See Rokid’s official display-glasses overview and the RV101 listing at Relia.
Phone assistant or RV101: compare the workflow
| Your task | Phone-first approach | What to check with RV101 |
|---|---|---|
| Prepare a short introduction | Draft, edit and compare versions on the phone screen. | Check whether your intended display or prompting feature is available in the current app; prepare the final text before relying on it. |
| Ask about something you can see | Use the photo or camera input supported by your chosen phone assistant. | Check the supported photo-question workflow, then verify the identification against the actual object or its label. |
| Read a detailed answer | Use the larger editing area to inspect wording, links and context. | Decide whether a brief display or audio response is enough, and keep a way to review the full information. |
| Finish an action | Open the relevant app and check its confirmation. | Confirm the exact integration and completion status; a spoken suggestion alone does not show that an action happened. |
This is a planning comparison, not a Relia performance test. Try the same small, non-sensitive task in the tools you actually plan to use. Count the steps that matter to you: retrieving the phone, editing a mistake, finding a source and confirming the result.
Keep the phone, app and account in the checklist
Rokid’s current FAQ lists a compatible smartphone, the Hi Rokid app, a valid Rokid account and internet access among its operating requirements. It also notes that restricted app permissions can affect AI activation when the phone screen is off. Check the exact phone and intended feature rather than treating successful pairing as proof that everything works.
There is also an account distinction: as checked on October 19, 2026, Rokid’s FAQ says users cannot link their own ChatGPT or Gemini accounts inside Hi Rokid. Do not assume an existing phone-assistant subscription, conversation history or connected apps will transfer. Confirm the services, usage limits and any separate charges available to your Canadian account. Check Rokid’s current FAQ.
Offline translation is a separate feature with its own preparation requirements. It is not evidence that general AI questions work offline. Our RV101 translation guide covers that specific decision; the first-setup guide covers pairing and everyday preparation.
A useful answer still needs checking
For the community introduction, ask for a shorter version of text you wrote yourself. Read it back: did it keep the date, names and meaning? If you ask for factual information, follow the original source rather than judging the answer by its confident wording.
Google explicitly warns that Gemini Apps can present inaccurate information as factual. That warning concerns Gemini; it does not establish which service processes a particular Rokid request. It illustrates why checking an answer belongs in your workflow. Read Google’s Gemini Apps Privacy Hub.
Separate advice from completion. A suggested message is still a draft until you send it. A proposed appointment time is not a confirmed booking. Check the actual message thread, calendar or confirmation screen before saying the task is finished.
Choose what you are comfortable sharing
Before a photo or voice request, consider what enters the input: another person, a private document or a screen in the background. Use a harmless sample while learning the controls. Ask permission before recording people, and review the relevant app’s permissions and privacy information before sharing confidential material. Open-ear audio also calls for attention to the people nearby.
A practical buying decision
Write down one task you want to make easier, your exact phone and the place you expect to use it. Then confirm the supported input, output, connectivity, account requirements and fit. If you mainly want to write and revise long documents, begin with your phone workflow. If brief information in your field of view would help, explore RV101 and check those requirements first.
Need help checking the model? Send your phone model and intended task to support@reliahome.ca. Relia can help with product selection; your optician can assess prescription-lens suitability. The RV101 insert frame is separate, and prescription lenses and fitting are not included.
